The trade of Jordan Poole for Chris Paul in June had several tentacles to it. The last portion, weaved into it late on draft night, essentially came down to this: Patrick Baldwin Jr. and some cash from the Golden State Warriors to the Washington Wizards for the 57th pick. They’d immediately use that late-second-round selection to draft Trayce Jackson-Davis. So, in a retelling, it essentially boils down to a Baldwin for Jackson-Davis swap, a bet from the Warriors on an older prospect at a greater position of need over a younger shooter further away from being a theoretical rotation player. They felt that was a better use of their 14th roster spot.
